Aries (Mar 21 - Apr 19)
“If you’re a nervous Nelly don’t go on a vacation with an Aries or you’ll need valium,” laughs Miller, who says that as the first sign of the zodiac, Aries epitomizes spring and new beginnings. This fire sign prefers a warm destination and wants to be active and learn something or test his or herself, “so they can come back and say they did it, they love that.” Aries are ruled by Mars and never run out of energy so they need a companion who can keep up. Taurus (Apr 20 - May 20)
The most sensuous sign of the zodiac, this earth sign wants pampering and luxury when they travel. “It’s Paris Hilton with 20 pieces of luggage,” says Miller. They work hard and they never let people down, so when they're on vacation they want wonderful dinners, shopping, maybe even wine tasting. “This is a sign that uses their senses to a very high degree. Taurus is a toddler, a toddler learns about life through their senses. Think about it: They were born in May when all the world is petals and confetti.” The typical Taurus doesn’t need to go away for a long time, just long enough to feel relaxed. Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
The sign of the two twins flying through the air, Gemini loves to travel to foreign cities and experience local customs. They like to keep moving so they enjoy doing a lot of walking or driving and may plan a trip visiting several nearby cities. Train travel is appealing to Gemini because they can move around and chat with passengers. “Their M.O. is curiosity and education,” says Miller. “This is not a sign that’s going to go to a hotel and not move. They’re pretty active but since they’re so intellectual they’re going to want to see a few museums too. They’re going to want a local newspaper; they can’t periscope into a city unless they have that information.” Mercury rules commerce so Gemini like to shop at bazaars. Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
“Cancer needs to be near water—it’s the only thing that relaxes them,” says Miller. “They don’t care if they’re going to a Greek island surrounded by water, a little city by the lake or Paris by the river. A cruise would be fabulous, they would be in heaven.” A sensitive sort with delicate stomachs, Cancers prefer lovingly made home-cooked meals. A cute, family-owned restaurant with a warm atmosphere would appeal. Leo (July 23 - Aug 22)
This sign loves to dress up and go to the theater or the opera. They love culturally rich cities and crave a 5-star stay, especially if it’s in a castle. After all, it is the royal sign. “Mention budget to a Leo and they’re disappointed,” says Miller. “They somehow have to figure out how to travel, get a good deal and not feel like they’re on a budget. They’re the ones that should be checking the special deals.” They love music, and would plan a vacation around a big concert. Virgo (Aug 23 - Sept 22)
Virgos make perfect travel companions, says Miller. “They’re fun, they learn the language, and they’re good with maps. They tend to do a lot of research beforehand and that’s fun for them. They’re going to have a list of places they want to hit, but they’re flexible. They want to go any place where they can learn, this is another intellect sign like Gemini.” Virgo are very thorough, they’re healthy and wake up early and don’t mind walking a lot: They want to feel like they covered everything. Libra (Sept 23 - Oct 22)
If you want to know what’s hip, ask a Libra. This is a sign that knows where the scene is hot, where to go to see and be seen, and which boutiques are best. “It’s an air sign like Gemini, so their antenna is always up,” says Miller. “A Libra is not interested in covering every detail but in having fun.” The sign of partnership, Libras enjoy traveling with a companion, especially if it’s a sweetheart. They’re also very social, so they like to look up friends, or friends-of-friends, and are open to meeting strangers. Ruled by Venus, Libras like softness and a refined grace in their hotels, but they don’t require grandeur like Leos do. Scorpio (Oct 23 - Nov 21)
For a Scorpio, vacation is time for romance. They’re the ones renting private villas on secluded beaches. They’re going to go out of their way to get privacy where they can read and relax. Sagittarius (Nov 22 - Dec 21)
Sagittarius is a born traveler. A lover of the outdoors, strong, athletic and good-natured:“They’re very good to travel with because nothing bothers them. They overcome obstacles easily.” They’re interested in government, quality of life, they blend well and take notes in case they want to go back or suggest something to a friend. Sagittarius falls into the houses of both travel and education so they love to travel to exotic lands where they can learn about unfamiliar cultures. “You can drop them out of a plane in any city and they’re going to function,” says Miller. “They’re very, very good at getting up to speed quickly.” Our Recommendation: Jackson Hole, Wyoming Make it Happen: Stay at the Jackson Hole Lodge
Capricorn (Dec 22 - Jan 19)
Capricorn rules history so they love to see old cities, archeology and geology. The sign of the ram likes to hike. They’re hard-working, usually assume high levels within their companies and therefore often like an aura of status. “They tend to like to stay in old but wonderful hotels like The Pierre or The Plaza in New York, the Brown Palace in Denver,” says Miller, “They’re not celebrity hounds at all but they’re interested in history.” Our Recommendation: Prague Make it Happen: Stay at the Hotel Casa Marcello
Aquarius (Jan 20 - Feb 18)
Aquarians are a curious sort. They’re interested in politics and countries that have undergone big changes in their histories. This sign rules technology, cities and science. “They’re going to do a lot of research on the internet,” says Miller. They’ll want to see science museums, planetariums, air and space museums. They might be interested in going to Universal Studios and seeing how television is made. And be ready to party if you’re traveling with an Aquarius because they love the night life. Pisces (Feb 19 - March 20)
Spiritual Pisces want a vacation where they can reflect, soak in nature, maybe a yoga or religious retreat. “So many people come to them for help they need time to recharge themselves,” says Miller. “It’s not a materialistic sign so they’re not looking for luxury but they are looking for peacefulness, where they feel like they’ve gotten away.” They have a rich imagination and love music and the movies.
