Yoga Benefits For Stress Management
Yoga benefits are clear to me, because yoga saved my life. Seriously. I remember a particular day very clearly, many years ago, when I was running on the treadmill at my local gym. I was watching a bunch of people taking a yoga class across the room. I was distracted, because I kept thinking about how they were wasting their time standing around and laying motionless on the floor. But suddenly, the idea that standing around and laying on the floor might be a good activity to relax and cool down from my workout, forced me to jump off my treadmill and join the class that had just started. I felt fine leaving class and got in my car to drive home. When someone cut me off, I didn't react as usual. When the light turned red and I had to sit and wait, I didn't react as usual. All of a sudden, I felt a huge wave of relaxation and relief hit me. I knew something was different about me. It was as if every irritation was bouncing right off of an invisible shell going all around me. That's when I figured out it was yoga. I went to more yoga classes, bought a yoga dvd, stopped taking my anti-anxiety medication, stopped going to therapy and my panic attacks stopped. My life completely changed and I've never been the same anxiety-sick person since. That's why I believe in yoga. It gave me a new life. And I bet it can do the same for you.
