Year of the Tiger
2010 Feng Shui Bagua
Welcome to the Year of the Tiger. Using a flying stars map allows you to fine tune your decor to strengthen the specific 2010 feng shui energies, as well as, to dampen the troublesome ones. Have you already done your basic feng shui decorating? Then you are ready to make the second level of adjustments to your space, explained here.
Where are the annual stars in this YEAR OF THE METAL TIGER? - Your West Bagua Area Has The Number 1 White Water Star (water star exhausts metal bagua, add metal anyway to get stronger good star energy) This is good energy; it will support children, creativity and fun this year. Add blue and water to make it stronger (keep red and fire away!).
- Your Northeast Bagua Area Has The Number 2 Black Earth Sickness Star (earth star in earth bagua makes it stronger)This is bad energy; it will weaken education, knowledge and wisdom. Do not try to destroy with wood, instead exhaust it with round/moving metal and keep this area dark and quiet.
- Your South Bagua Area Has The Number 3 Hostile Wood Star (wood star in fire bagua makes it stronger) This is bad energy; it will weaken fame, recognition and reputation. Don't try to destroy with metal, instead exhaust it with lots of fire: red, candles, bright lights.
- Your North Bagua Area Has The Number 4 Green Wood Star (wood star in water bagua is exhaustive, so build up water with more blue and water objects) This is good energy; it will support careers, add plants to build up good wood star energy (and keep metal away).
- Your Southwest Bagua Area Has The Number 5 Yellow Earth Star (earth star in earth bagua makes it stronger)This is bad energy; it will weaken romance and marriage. Don't try to destroy it with wood, instead exhaust it with round and/or moving metal.
- Your East Bagua Area Has The Number 6 White Metal Wealth Star (metal star in the wood bagua is destructive, so build up wood with a bit of blue and/or water) This is good star energy, it supports family relationships. Make it stronger with round metal (keep red and fire away).
- Your Southeast Bagua Area Has The Number 7 Metal Violent Star (metal star in wood bagua is destructive, so build up wood with a bit of blue and/or water) This is bad energy; it weakens wealth, blue color and water will exhaust the metal and build up the wood, also keep this area dark and quiet.
- Your Center Bagua Area Has The Number 8 White Earth Star (good earth star in an earth bagua area is wonderful) This is good energy; it supports health and romance! Add lots of crystals, and fire to build it even more (no wood or plants because that destroys earth; and no metal because that exhausts earth).
- Your Northwest Bagua Area Has The Number 9 Purple Fire Star (fire star in metal bagua is destructive, so build up metal with some round metal shiny objects) This is good energy; it will support networking, mentors and also brings you helpful people. Keep water, mirrors, glass, the colors blue and black out, because water destroys fire, and water exhausts metal.
Don't worry about the negative energy, as long as you place "cures" in each of them, you will be able to sail through the year without any major troubles.
Below is a simple map for you to use now, as you set up your space for the the Year of the Tiger, which runs from February 4th, 2010, all the way to February 4th of 2011.

Note: If you also use personal feng shui guidelines for your kua number, you should be aware that those adjustments to your space are less important than these yearly adjustments (also know as the "flying stars" energy). The order of importance is as follows: - 1. General Feng Shui (using the original bagua)
- 2. Yearly Feng Shui (annual flying stars energy)
- 3. Personal Feng Shui (according to your Kua number)
- 4. Monthly Feng Shui (monthly flying stars energy)
Let's start with the most basic information for the Year of the Tiger. Stay out of the areas with the skull and cross bones and spend lots of time in the smiley face zones. If you can't avoid the bad zones: keep them quiet, keep the lights low, windows and doors shut and add the objects and colors and materials that wear out the bad energy in that area (look at my Year of the Tiger map above). Build up the already positive (smiley) areas by adding objects and colors that make that energy stronger. Open the windows and doors to let the good vibes flow. That's the simple way to do it. If you are really into this and want to go the full nine yards, then check out the links below that give you more Year of the Tiger details and the traditional Chinese objects to use.
Have fun making your space perfect for this Year of the Tiger by moving your feng shui objects, purchasing new ones and being creative in choosing new ways to use what you already have. You do not need Chinese objects. Just look at the color of an object, the material it is made of and what it represents. Then place it where it matches the good energy, supports the good energy or exhausts the bad energy . Don't break the big rules though (ex. no moving water features in bedrooms). Now relax, knowing you are well PROTECTED from anything bad this Year of the Tiger can throw at you.
Details of My 2010 Year of the Tiger Redecorating
It's so important to have your floor plan labeled so that it's very clear exactly where the center of the floor plan is and, like a pizza pie, I divide my floor plan into eight equal slices: north, northwest, west, southwest, south, southeast, east, northeast, and I draw a small square at the center. Some rooms have the energy of two (or more) different compass directions. I don't pretend that the entire room is the same zone; I decorate according to the energy that is located in each part of the room according to the compass lines that divide the space. Fix The Bad Areas Before Enhancing the Good Ones The first thing I look at, is the color requirements of the "bad energy" zones. The bad zones for the 2010 Year of the Tiger are the Northeast, Southeast, Southwest, and South. Changes for the Northeast My northeast bedroom had lots of red*, but for 2010 it can't have red because that makes the bad energy stronger. So I removed everything red and replaced it with white. I also added as much metal as I could find. For example, I added a 6 rod wind chime and a pair of steel dumbbells and an antique metal fire extinguisher. The goal is to add as much metal and the metal color of white as possible. I also added a smoke alarm for extra protection and a Chinese Wu Lou to protect the occupant's health. A metal pendulum clock was also added to this room, and a moving metal fan would be great here. How does all this work? The name of the bad energy in the Northeast is "Black Earth Number 2 Sickness Star". Since metal exhausts the earth energy, we want lots of metal, as well as the color of metal (white, silver, gold). Using the exhausting energy cycle is the best defense, because the bad energy gets too tired to do much damage. Don't use wood, which destroys earth, because this combination is too aggressive and will make the area even worse. Avoid the idea of 'killing' the bad energy, because this technique will backfire, since the fighting energies will create havoc. Don't keep red in this area because fire enhances earth. Keep this room quiet (no slamming doors) and the lights low. Certainly no red*, no candles and no fire in the fireplace. NOTE: whenever I talk about the color red, I'm also referring to red-like colors, such as pink, purple, orange, lilac, etc. A more advanced method of sucking up the bad energy here is called a salt water cure. A tall, wide-mouthed beverage glass, (or mayo jar) is filled 3/4 of the way with rock salt (the box may say it's for making ice cream), 6 lucky Chinese coins are placed in a circle with the yang (4 symbol side) side up. Then tap water is added to the top. This glass or jar is placed on a mat or plate and is placed in the open, but in a place where it won't get bumped. The water must always be topped off so that the glass is full. The salt and water combination (along with the metal energy of the special coins) sucks up the bad energy in the room. Changes for the Southwest The name of the bad energy here is "Yellow Earth Number 5 Star". This area should be treated the same way as the Northeast: lots of heavy metal, the color white, shiny silver and gold objects and a pendulum clock (or chime clock with internal moving metal parts). Don't forget the 6 hollow rod metal wind chime. A salt water cure would be very helpful here. Keep this room quiet (no slamming doors) and the lights low. Certainly no red, no candles and no fire in the fireplace. Changes for the Southeast Here we have the "Number 7 Violent Metal Star" energy. Water exhausts metal, so use water features, like an aquarium or a water fountain in this area- but NOT if it's in a bedroom. Dark blue and the color black are water colors and glass is the water element. So use lots of objects with these characteristics. Add security features to this area to protect from burglary. Take out earthen objects (clay, porcelain, tiles, rocks, and crystals) and remove as much beige and pale yellow or earth colors because they enhance the bad energy . Since fire destroys metal, and this would cause a bad reaction of opposing energies, remove as much red as possible and keep the lights low. Keep this room quiet (no slamming doors), windows closed and certainly no red, no candles and no fire in the fireplace. Changes for the South 2010 Year of the Tiger has the bad "Hostile Wood Number 3 Star" energy in the south. Since fire exhausts wood, use lots of red and bright lights in this area. Make sure to take out any moving water features and remove as much of the color blue or black as possible (because water enhances wood energy) . Metal destroys wood and that's much too violent of an activity to create here, so move out items that are shiny silver, gold or white. MAKE THE GOOD ENERGY AREAS GREAT The good energy in the Year of the Tiger is in the center, the north, northwest, west and east. That means there are five good areas and only four bad areas. Our goal here is to remove the colors and materials that destroy and exhaust this good energy and add the colors and elements that enhance and feed the good energy. Open the windows to let more good energy in. This is the really fun part! Enhancements for the Center The center area has the "Number 8 White Earth Star" energy. That means earth colors (beige, pale yellow, light tan) and earthen objects (rocks, clay, tile, crystals, porcelain, etc.) will make the energy stronger. Fire supports earth, so add lots of red and light and candles and a fire in the fireplace. Take out wood items and the color brown and green, since wood destroys earth. You also don't want to exhaust the good earth energy, so take out metal items and remove as much white, shiny silver and gold colors. Enhancements for the North The "Number 3 Green Wood Star" energy is in the north during this Year of the Tiger. That means we want to support wood energy with wood objects and a plant, as well as, the colors brown and green. Since water supports wood, add lots of blue or black, glass objects and a water feature- an aquarium, water fountain, water image in a painting- but NO moving water in bedrooms. Wood energy gets exhausted by fire; so no red, no candles, no fire and no bright lights. Wood is destroyed by metal, so remove heavy metal objects and avoid having the colors white, silver or gold. Enhancements for the Northwest The "Number 9 Purple Fire Star" energy is in the northwest, so lots of red, bright lights, candles and fire are good here. Wood supports fire, so a plant and the colors brown and green are good choices to make this energy stronger. Fire is put out by water, so take out blue and black colors, as well as any water features. Earth exhausts fire, so it's important to remove rocks, crystal, tile, and clay objects. Take out earth colors like beige, pale yellow and light tan. Enhancements for the West The "Number 1 White Water Star" energy is in the west, so here is a good place for a water feature (but not in bedrooms) and the colors dark blue and black. Since metal supports water, place lots of white and shiny silver or gold metal objects here. Earth destroys water so remove rocks, crystal, tile, and clay objects. Take out earth colors like beige, pale yellow and light tan. Wood exhausts water, so remove brown and green colors, as well as plants and wooden objects. Enhancements for the East The "Number 6 White Metal Star" energy is located in the east area. Adding a metal object and the color white or silver or gold would be appropriate. Earth supports metal so add rocks, crystals (especially some agate, turqurnite and rhyolite jasper), a faceted crystal can be hung in this area and other earthen objects, as well as earth colors, such as beige and soft yellow. If you have a bedroom in the east, this is a special concern and requires the color blue or black (try a floor rug or bed linens in dark blue).
