Benefits of WaterI think most everyone agrees that fresh, clean water is very healthy for us to drink. The benefits of water are numerous, and there are many ways to get delicious, super healthy drinking water. I will highlight them here. Personally, I believe that eating an alkaline (neutral pH, not acidic) diet and drinking clean, alkaline water keeps my body leaner and helps it function better, while it boosts my immune system and protects me from getting sick as often as most people (as my physician pointed out during a physical).

There are five major topics in my discussion of how to get the benefits of water: 1. alkalinity, 2. ionization 3. Dr. Emoto's theory that water structure can be changed by thoughts, images, and sound, 4. the use of quartz crystals in water, and 5. the very exciting concept of water playing a role in the activation of extra DNA strands.
Alkaline and Ionized Water Many articles have been written about the importance of eating and drinking alkaline foods and beverages. Alkaline foods have a pH level between 7 and 10. Alkaline nourishment is believed by many to be less destructive on the human body than acidic foods. Ionized water comes from a process that separates the acid and alkaline content. This is achieved through electrolysis which enhances the ability of the blood to carry oxygen and helps neutralize free radicals in the bloodstream. It also greatly increases its hydration capability. Ionized Water is very alkaline and helps balance the body's pH, which tends to be acidic because of many people have a diet comprised of cooked foods, pasteurized, and processed foods. Many things that are available for consumption (including bottled water) are acidic. Soft drinks are the most acid substance a person can put in their body.
I have also read that this acidic condition creates an ideal environment in the body for disease to thrive. For example, accumulated acid waste in the joints can lead to inflammation and arthritis. However, ionized Water, which can be very alkaline, may dissolve accumulated acid waste and help return the body to a balance. Keeping the body alkaline is the first line of defense in fighting any disease, because disease thrives in an acidic environment.
When I feel a cold coming on, I also squeeze an organic lemon slice into my water (and it does not make the water acidic). This trick helps me reduce and avoid cold symptoms all winter.
Dr. Masaru Emoto's Water Theory A Japanese doctor of alternative medicine discovered that water can have many differences in its crystalline structure depending on the type of water source it comes from (stream, polluted, glacier, etc.) as well as the type of thoughts, words, pictures or music it is exposed to. Because of his book, I decided to write messages of gratitude on my water pitcher at work and on the water tank we use at home (I'll post the photos soon). You may get inspired to do this too, by reading his fascinating book: The Hidden Messages in Water  If you have any singing bowls to ring near your water, you now have a good reason to do it. If you can actually play beautiful music through speakers near your water, that would also make a difference in the structure and performance of your drinking water. I found an inexpensive and beautiful Tibetan brass bowl with a mallet on ebay. I strike it next to my water tank in the fridge and near my Gratitude Tumbler as it sits on the counter after it's been filled. Soaking Quartz Crystals in Drinking Water Quartz crystals left in water will ionize the water and this is a good drink for healing. The high silica content of many crystal minerals allows water to keep its structure and prevents it from becoming "weak" and polluted. Crystal water (water that a quartz crystal has been placed in) has been drunk for its healthy benefits for centuries. There are two ways to make crystal water. One way is to take a large, clean piece of quartz and place it at the bottom of a pitcher of fresh water. Place the pitcher in the refrigerator and leave the crystal in the pitcher each time you refill the pitcher. After several weeks, when the water does not taste special (really cold and delicious) anymore, place the quartz crystal in the sun for 4 hours to recharge and then return it to the water pitcher. I use a Brita pitcher at work and a Brita tank at home. The alternative to submerging the crystal directly into the water, is to put the crystal in an empty glass and put the glass holding the crystal into the pitcher or tank of water.

This is textbook knowledge, but what about the book's explanation that the water's most important function "is to serve as a highly conductive transmitting medium for DNA." It exists "primarily as a resonance factor for the communication of sound and light transmissions." (page 232) Water affects DNA's ability to communicate and transmit the intelligence contained within it." (page 234) Metaphysicians know about the elemental spirit essences of water, called Undines . These beings respond to our conscious thoughts and transform the water by either slowing down or raising the vibration of the water. When we understand the nature of water and grasp the concept of DNA being affected by the quality of the fluid in our body, then it might not be such a stretch to open our mind to the idea that better DNA communication can result in the activation of sleeping DNA strands so that they can be woven into the matrix of our molecular composition. This is just one fascinating section of this book. If you have read everything on this page, you can probably understand why I am so interested in water and love taking all the actions described on this page to make my water as special and effective for my body as possible. If you want to try any of these methods for improving your drinking water, don't forget to think about the water you are consuming now. Is it straight from the tap? Have you read the free, unbiased, online reports of your water's quality and chemical content? Most everyone will benefit from using a water filtering system. The products I like best, include regular charcoal filters like those found in the Brita Water pitcher (I use this at work) or the Brita Water tank (we use this in our refrigerator); then there is an electric water distiller (inconvenient) and the best is probably a reverse osmosis system (a bit expensive).
It is very easy to place a large quartz crystal in the bottom of a water pitcher or water tank and with a paint marker, it is simple enough to write words of love and appreciation on the sides of both the plastic pitcher or tank.
Distilled Water? Reverse Osmosis Water? Osmosis is the movement of water particles through a membrane with very tiny holes into a solution that has a higher concentration of unwanted particles, which equalizes the level of concentration of water particles on the two sides of the membrane. Gore-tex fabric is an example of a membrane that contains an extremely thin plastic film into which billions of small pores have been cut. The pores are big enough to let water vapor through, but small enough to prevent liquid water from passing. Osmosis is why drinking salty ocean water will kill you. Because when you put salty water in your stomach, osmotic pressure begins drawing clean water out of your body’s cells to try to dilute the salt water in your stomach. Eventually, your body dehydrates and you can die. In reverse osmosis, the idea is to use a system with a membrane to act like an extremely fine filter to create drinkable water from salty, contaminated or dirty water. The dirty water is put on one side of the membrane and pressure is applied to stop osmosis (the clean water going into the dirty water), and then to reverse the osmotic process (making the clean water come out of the dirty water). It generally takes a lot of pressure and is fairly slow, but it works.
This system pictured on the left (approx. $400) shows the process by which water molecules are forced through a 0.0001 micron semi-permeable membrane by water pressure. For the membrane to be usable it must be in some type of container (membrane housing) so pressure can be maintained on its surface. It is this pressure that supplies the energy to force the water through the membrane, separating it from unwanted substances. The most impressive aspect of Reverse Osmosis (RO) is that the substances left behind are automatically diverted to a waste drain (by using some of the clean water) so they don't build up in the system as with conventional filtering devices.
Distillers typically remove a few parts per million more of common mineral particles like sodium. However, the main issue people have with their water is chemicals, not minerals. Distillers don’t do a good job with volatile chemicals with a low boiling point (like chloramines, a chlorine substitute). Whether water contains 30 or 3 parts per million of calcium may not be as important, as the difference between 0.5 and 5 parts per million of chloroform. But in general, distilled water is very pure, as is reverse osmosis water.
